In the spirit of hockey and great music, as well as not writing the report I have due tomorrow, here's the new The Rural Alberta Advantage song, "Stamp". Their new album will be out early next year and I for one can't wait. One of my favorite bands of a couple years ago by far so here's a couple classics from them also, because I can and all.
found this ceo video on gorillavsbear, it's one of my favorite songs by them and the video is fairly well done. almost makes me with the ground wasn't white so i could play some tennis......almost anyways check 'em out if your that out of the loop
So ive been checking some blogs around the web, and needless to say, everyone seems to be posting about the same type of music. So ive decided to stop holding off with my love with hardcore, and to start posting some of that shit too. Heavy music is what gets me through each day. Dealing with idiots and people who I genuinely disagree with (mostly the slackers in my art/design classes) each day is justified when my shitty headphones rattle the machine gun double bass and chest pumping chugs of rhythm guitar directly to my eardrums. Anyways, it's obvious that everyone is interested in this trippy, neo-indie whatever, and yes I like some of it a lot, but it just doesn't strike that chord in me yet. All i'm ranting about basically is that I'm gunna post some heavy stuff, k? Then maybe you can be as pissed as me?
I am lazy and slightly sorry about it. Thanksgiving activities consumed quite a bit of our time as did my quest to become the greatest NHL11 player ever. Here's a pile of consumables to occupy you for minutes and minutes.
Today was a big new music day for me. I've got about 15 bands I'm sifting through and one of the most intriguing is Frontier Ruckus. I'm about through their album "Deadmalls & Nightfalls" and am quite impressed. I guess the only way I can describe them is Canadian folk country? See for yourself:
Just heard this song over at gorillavsbear and I'm instantly hooked. "Let Them" samples from a techno song I know well but can't put my finger on, though it sounds like Alice DeeJay. Also, the cover of T.I. and The XX's "intro" will be thrown in because its there and good as well. Lastly I'll put on the Chiddy bang song I havent been able to get out of my head the last couple days. Also, theres a Naked and Famous remix because I can. Though Chiddy Bang is the kind of music that will only last me about a week before I start to hate it, it might be fun for that week.
Thanks to dailybeatz for this band. The more times I listen to it the more I like it. Even though I only have the these two songs, their ep was released in the UK today and will be stateside soon so keep your eyes open. Trophy Wife – Microlite Trophy Wife – Take This Night
Another song from the upcoming "Tron Legacy" soundtrack by Daft Punk has graced the intreenet so give it a listen. Its pretty much exactly what one would expect given its an end credit song, supposedly. A nice smooth clean beat to smile on your way out of the theater to. Unless of course a dance party breaks out at the end of the movie, so who knows.
So right after I posted this ive been watching it and had to pause it to write this... This is a sick video, especially fo free, these guys are talented as well as hilarious, and really know how to slam!
We've got a new wallpaper to start the desktop wallpaper series. We plan on getting you a new one every week, so go to the wallpaper page on the blog and all the sizes and other wallpapers are listed there. Also we hope to get other artists to contribute to the wallpaper series, so if you are interested let us know worthyofexplosions@gmail.com or contact us on the chat board
Nate and I have acquired a favorite new show this summer called Danny and The Dingo, and it's coming back November 16th at 10pm on Fuel TV. This teaser gets me really excited!
Hey, just wanted to show you what ive been doing instead of posting on the blog. Ive been working on this print which i finally finished last night. This is a greeting card (unfolded) for the new snowboard movie the crew is going to make in the winter months. So sorry for the lack of posting, I will try and keep up with Nate from now on.
This week is going to be quite busy for me and Devin doesn't get around to posting much. So, for the 3 or 4 of you who care, it may be a bit slow, but I will do what when I can.
1st I can't get this song out of my head so I will basically copy the ear blessings post.
I just wanted to throw a little thanks out there for everyone that's been stopping by. I feel as though were starting to dig out our own little niche in the blog world. A couple big things have been happening in the past week. We've gotten a couple plugs on other blogs including out friend Felicia's tumblr. We're now read in 5 countries and 15 states. The other day I received our first copyright infringement notice, for a post with 7 songs and no mention of what song the notice was for. We even got our first request for someones music to be put on the blog. Exciting stuff right?!
All this happened on the week where both Devin and I have been extremely busy as well. I'm currently in a pretty boring class so I'll try to throw in a few findings from the past week.
1st: Skins is going to be on MTV. Devin had a HUGE skins kick this summer and it really showed potential I just never got around to it. Now I can catch is on the channel I refuse to watch, aside from the promise of Jenks. Even if it wont have all it's foul language and nudity it might be worth the effort. watch online
2nd: New Local Natives video. I'm going to shove this down Devin's throat. Summer days like that are winter days for us.
3rd: New Lupe song/album announcement. Album will be released on March 8th. Song doesn't just sample Modest Mouse, it basically imitates the entire song. I like what he's trying but it doesn't really work in my opinion. however, it does show a lot of potential for the album in which Lupe is sure not to disappoint. Lupe Fiasco- Show Goes On
While surfing this morning to find my daily dose of inspiration, I came upon Amsterdam based Illustrator/Designer Stefan Glerum. His Style is very unique and fresh with the way he uses shape and color. I really liked these posters for a disco event, but make sure to check out his portfolio site cus' theres plenty more.
Snowboarding is all that has been on my mind lately, and how much it is going to help me cope with this crazy semester. Until that snow starts falling, this new website called whitelines.com will have to hold us over fellow shredders. I suggest checking out their nice desktop wallpapers.
"Freelance Whales have just released a new track titled Enzymes through Green Label Sound. Here's what lead singer Judah Dadone has to say about the track "originally mocked up on a laptop in the van, as a way of messing around with alternate time signatures… we were just rehearsing this song a few weeks ago, and now it’s recorded. And it will be released for free, which just feels right,” The track doesn't stray away too far from their original sound. Maybe more to come soon? Give the track a listen below." -BIRP
Not much needs to be said about this The Knife cover.
However, why are people just catching onto King Charles now? I know its entirely unrelated it just ruffles my feathers. I saw it posted in a blog the other day, though it had been out for months and suddenly it tops hypemachine? People need to learn to figure things out for themselves...there's more to it than the chain effect.
I'm pretty pumped to see Wiz Khalifa is back it it. Back in the day (a whole 2 years ago) I was really into his track "Say Yeah", "Better Off Alone" by Alice Deejay ,the beat sampled was among the first I learned to play on keys. I've read he has a new cd with Atlantic records coming out in early '11. Rap isn't really my thing but theres a few artists I like to keep tabs on. This album will definitely be on my radar. He's the 1st single off the upcoming release.
Unrelated, I got really into Bedouin Soundclash today. Though the songs been bouncing around my playlists for a couple weeks, I didn't get a chance to really appreciate it till today when it helped me get through a migraine today. It was followed by "Heaven" by Abandon All Ships, they paired well.
So if you don't know who Banksy is, he is a well known graffiti artist from Bristol, England. His work is based on political issues, and believe me, he holds nothing back. Recently he was able to get his hands on the Simpson's opening scene, where he makes 20th Century Fox the victim. As stated by popular Designer/Blogger KitsuneNoir , the strategy of Fox is strange to let Banksy do this, but who knows what their up to.
Danny and the Dingo's new season is still a bit away. However, the wonderful people at ride emailed me with a new webisode type thing deal. It's not as good but who knows what will come of it. Especially with how ripped he is at the end.
The new Sufjan Stevens album leaked yesterday. As anticipated it is excellent all the way through. If you don't yet have it preorder it or something ;-). Do what you do and enjoy. As a treat, here's the 25.5 minute gem at the end.
I was once very excited to see the direction Burton was going. Great boards this year, great team, prices and graphics were at the top of the list too. Then I saw this today: Burton Method. I knew they were remaking the original "cool" snowboard. Didn't know about the $1500 price tag though. Don't worry, free shipping on orders $200 and up. Now I don't know what to think....shitty thing to do.
So after checking one of my favorite sites transworldsnowboarding I found this skater by the name of Dylan Rieder, and boy is he good. The short film captures everything creative about skateboarding, and the people that make it happen. When I watch people skate/snowboard like Dylan my foot taps faster as the video get longer until the end where I run out and grab my board and get to enjoy the freedom for myself. So now i'm out to do just that, hope you like the vid.
p.s check out the tunes in it listed in the creds.
Here's more of "Fuck It". Twas made to be the trailer for itunes. Stevie Bell's head on a body builder should be enough of a reason to push through the horrible song. This thing better leak soon....
I've been noticing Warpaint's been getting a lot of press lately. I've tried a couple times, wasn't really getting it til tonight. As is common they reminded me of someone, kind of. Couldn't put my finger on it until later on I was getting my daily fill of "Cheers" propaganda and there it was, Sleigh Bells. Anyways, tomorrow is going to be a pretty mellow day as I now have something that's just happy and peaceful and will enhance the entire nice day in fall vibe.
In my excess of work and need to listen to a 10 hour audio book by Wednesday, I haven't had a lot of time for newer music. At first glance this band really isn't my style. They've been floating around my playlist for a week or two and never really garnished any significant notice. Sure it's fairly catchy, has good beats, and a little something extra but so what, a lot of music is like that these days. Until tonight I had just assumed them to be the next La Roux. Then I suppose I heard the right song at the right time. Tonight it brought me back to one of the best times of my life when Devin and I were driving around the Northeast. I remember Lake Placid, my parking ticket in Burlington, Devin's then dream school (Castleton) and a couple songs: Yours to Keep by Teddybears Stockholm and Heartbeats by The Knife. There's obviously some similarities between The Naked & Famous and these bands but it's more the attitude of it all that makes me happy. Regardless, after I have the quiz on this book Wednesday, I know what I'm listening to my drive home.
This made my shitty day a lot less shitty. I am almost ready to actually buy this one. There is little doubt in my mind that this will be the best or one of the best films of the year. The People Crew never disappoint and I don't see this year being any different.
This is the first 3 of a series of 10 favorite albums designs I just started. Hoe you enjoy, let me know what you think about my choices. This art work is not for sale, and is only a means of recreational design, and support for the artist's mentioned.
Ohh MCR, you never cease to amuse me with you mixed media approach to engage fans to buy the next album. I haven't really heard much in the last 5 years from them, but I liked the first two albums, and with this promo vid, i'm finally excited for another MCR album. The playful nature of the video along with it's bright colors and sick ending drew me in, and I guess i'll leave the album to do the rest. Don't give up on your middle school bands!
He has a new EP and it has a great new single. Being I am a pretty large fan of his collective work I will post said single from said EP "Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird". Also I found His cover of Paul Simon's "Graceland", which may or may not be one of the best songs ever.
Through the grapevine of social networking tools, I found out that Summer People has a brand new website. Summer People is a band from all over NY, including Binghamton, where Nate and I live. (authors of worthy) But anyways, as I was searching the new site, I found out theres a free show in Syracuse thursday, if your a local check it out on their site for details. summerppl.com
In honor of premier week, which is when all the new snowboarding films are released and is this week/weekend, here are some teasers and clips from the year's most anticipated. In no particular order:
Transworld - In Color
Thepeoplecrew - Cheers just a random video from them because the lazy asses didn't put out a teaser (jp walker's fault I'm sure)
Finger on da trigger/ MFM - The Arena Dev will love this one
Absinthe - Now/Here amazing line-up
Videograss - Bon Voyage sure to be a spectacle of jibbery
Standard - The Storming Probably the best back country movie ever, we'll see
What we have here is a great design piece consisting of lyrics that were specifically chosen for this piece. It's part of a series of typographic treatments of lyrics by only the best illustrators and designers. This piece was done by Toko Design. This ones definetely going in my inspiration folder.
I guess a couple of my most anticipated new releases leaked last night but your going to have to find them for yourself, I believe both are on strikegently if its really a problem. Regardless Chromeo's "Business Casual" is Chromeo being themselves. From my extensive single run through of the album they've go a couple great ones and a couple flops, but whatever it's still new Chromeo which is always fun and I'm sure will get worn out in the coming winter months. Also, the quality of the leak was shit, somebody get on that. Chromeo - Don't Turn the Lights On Chromeo – Night By Night Aeroplane - She is a Superstar (ft. Chromeo) (not on cd)
And then this morning I wake up to Flamingo. If you even try to say you weren't at least curious how this would turn out, fuck you. Haven't finished it yet but I'm pleased with what I hear. It's a bit more mellow and folk based than The Killers, and there will always be room in my library for that. Brandon Flowers does well, I can see it getting old after about 20 plays in a row. I guess we'll have to see though.
Lastly I found this band called The fling on Blalock's last night and really like what I have heard thus far so here is basically a repost of that. Blalock's The Fling - Strangers
No more Craig Owens, but I guess they don't really care. Pretty impressive new stuff....still nothing will ever compare to Thermacare. After all the changes they've had they still put out a distinct sound. Never hearing the song before or their new vocalist you can always just tell it's them. With all the new and similar bands these days that's the most impressive thing of all.
So I've heard this song rolling around for a bit and its really starting to stick with me. Crystal Castles new album was solid in my opinion and is just screaming for more remixes such as this, and empathy better be one of them.
This is a great show to get away from your dramatics like Dexter and well... thats the only dramatic show I watch, but I'm seriously excited for my shows to start airing again. Bored to Death is a sure classic, and I think it's because of the relationship between the characters, especially Danson and Schwartzman, and Zach always throws in pure comedy to top it off. Watch it.
Washed Out is one of my favorite "chillwave" artists, great music, great remixes, etc....this is a video of clips from his summer 2009 tour to one of his better songs "hold out" pitchfork described it very well here. Love his home studio sitting infront of the window, in the video though. Check it out for yourself.
Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra, Andy Hall and all, have a new band called Bad Books. This new band now has a song out and here it is. Bad Books - Please Move
Heres the new zombie series on AMC called "The Walking Dead." Looks very similar to any other zombie film, but I think the cinematography in this one will make it more intense than you used to.
So this is BMTH's new attempt at being "epic". I DO like it, I DON'T know why. I guess it's because Oli is kind of the man and his voice is moderately unique though the lyrics aren't always impressive. Anyways, here's something you've sort of heard before but haven't, ¿comprende?
So I've stumbled across this song in a few different circumstances: discovering, driving, flying in a plane, just listening to music. Every time I've been very intrigued. So I'm just going to say its a little bit creative, a little questionable, and a pretty decent amount of awesome. Enjoy
It was brought to my attention that wild nothing was once called facepaint, a blacksburg based band. Apparently I was too damn lazy to go see then and want to knock my teeth out with my knee because of it. Anyways here they be.
Dance Gavin Dance is going back with original vocalist Johnny Craig. Me personally would like to see them make another album with Kurt Travis, I think the Death Star Album was the best. But whatever, Johnny was pretty damn good with them also. we'll see whatsup when the record comes out.
this makes me actually intrigued to hear something that was formally titled "good ass job"....especially being i got to drink where kanye had his birthday party a couple months back
but anyways long story short for those who choce not to "read this?" justin vernon from bon iver is on kanye's new album
I'm trying to make it a point to start buying band T's again. Ive been looking at some band merch from www.merchnow.com, and this is what I found that I liked design wise.
pretty morning to be above the clouds for the sunrise. also a nice day to adventure into Chicago for the first time. The city is massive and very different than I expected. We'll see what else I can find in the week. All the pictures I can post will be from my cell phone as I forgot my digital camera cable and memory card.
Also, here's a couple nice songs for riding on public transportation
The last post i had written was about my troubles in finding an artist that was suitable for the situation i was in. Im glad to tell you the problem was resolved when i scrolled by "Bright Eyes." Led by frontman Conor Oberst is a magical band that you must have heard of by now. With a voice that many argue is horrible to the ears, just easily flows in mine and is absorbed in the brain. Conor is currently in a band called "Monsters of Folk," a band i also dig very much.
as i scroll up and down in a rapid manner nervously looking for an artist to listen to. No this isn't for background music, there really is no such thing for me, therefore sometimes it becomes really hard for me to decide who to listen to. Whatever i'm listening to at the moment is playing for a reason, some days are worse than others. Today I can't decide for shit what to listen to... Do i need more music or do i need to delete? I think i'm going to delete another 15 or so artists that i'm sure i will never give a chance. I just really can't stand music that isn't intense in it's own way. As for now i'm listening to a very intense Jesse Lacey live acoustic.. that always works for me.
So Ride's new line is out and being I bought one last year i checked them out, at first glance the manic (pictured) is my favorite, but they did a pretty great job in general, the machete had some solid improvements also. ridesnowboards
